It is no secret that I love dogs, perhaps even borderline obsessed with my own dog, Capone, a black lab/pit mix who just turned 9 years old. Once I moved here to Richmond, I knew I wanted to get involved with the local SPCA, but I certainly had no idea how successful and important the Richmond SPCA was, it far exceeded my expectations. It’s a non-profit, no-kill humane shelter that save the lives of about 3,500 homeless animals each year and I am so honored to be just one of the many volunteers! I remember hearing about The Annual Fur Ball last year while and I knew instantly I wanted to be a part of it. This year on October 12th was the 15th Annual Fur Ball, Richmond’s only balk-tie event for people and their pets, I couldn’t wait to see all the dogs and their owners, dressed in their best as they walk down the infamous steps at The Jefferson Hotel. This is the Richmond SPCA’s largest fundraiser event to support the Cinderella Fund, which helps pay for the cost of care and rehabilitation for sick and/or injured animals that come into the shelter. I am happy to report that this year, more than $500,000 was raised and the event was sold out, I was blown away by the generosity and the overwhelming love everyone has for animals. I am so thankful to have been a part of this creative, fun, successful event, amongst many other volunteers who so graciously donate their time, I recommend that everyone get out and volunteer at some point in their lives.

How gorgeous is the Jefferson?
Dog treats made and customized from Three Dog Bakery
The Pitbull on the right was one of my favorite dogs of the night, mostly because he was so well behaved and so ‘chill,’ my dog is part pit and I just hate how they receive such a bad rap. Well this dog is the perfect ambassador!
A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that took care of all the dogs while their owners got to mingle, eat dinner, and bid!
The food was absolutely delicious!
Um, how amazing is this dessert?! The cinderella shoe was edible too!
It’s bidding time!
South Africa Wine Tour .. Yes please.
This pup was passed out! Too much partying
I had to inclue one shot of me! It’s not everyday I’ll get to shoot at the Jefferson! I’d definitely like to be back to shoot a Wedding there though! 😉
Keep an eye out for the new Richmond SPCA mascot when Rosie retires …
